SIS Held the 11th Academic Forum


Special Session for Doctoral Students of

Foreign Languages and Literature of RUC and SNNU

 

On the evening of September 24, the 11th Academic Forum of School of International Studies (SIS)- Special Session for Doctoral Students of Foreign Languages and Literature of Renmin University of China (RUC) and Shaanxi Normal University (SNNU) was held in the Conference Room of No. 6 Teaching Building. Prof. Dai Xianmei of RUC and Prof. Sun Jian of SNNU served as experts to make comments at the forum, which was hosted by Prof. Liu Quanguo, Deputy Dean of School of International Studies. Some young scholars, postgraduates and all doctoral students of SIS were presented at the forum.

At the beginning of the forum, Prof. Dai delivered a lecture entitled Problem Consciousness in Literature Studies: with Research on Henry James and Hawthorne as the Case. She pointed out two major problems in present-day literature studies in China: overemphasis on theories and indifference to problems, and elaborated on emergence, discovery, settlement, and expression of academic problems.

Later, doctoral students Jia Hongtao and Chu Mengyun from School of Foreign Languages of RUC, as well as doctoral students Zhao Yong and Guo Rong from School of International Studies of SNNU respectively shared their experience of academic writing and publishing, application for the joint doctoral training programs sponsored by China Scholarship Council, and their academic research and progress. Prof. Dai Xianmei and Prof. Sun Jian made positive comments on their speeches. The forum went on in a lively atmosphere.

In the end, Deputy Dean Liu Quanguo made concluding remarks. Prof. Liu encouraged students to devote themselves to research and seek their own learning methods and academic path. He also advocated communicating with others and learning from teachers and peers for further progress.
